Preventive Maintenance (PM) 🔧 ✨

Welcome to the Maintenance section of our docs. This page gives you a fast, visual overview of how we run PMs across the gym and links out to category checklists. It’s written for operators, techs, and coaches—short, practical, and brand‑agnostic where possible, with notes for OEM‑specific exceptions.

TL;DR

  • Clean with mild, non‑ammonia products (spray the cloth, not the machine).
  • Inspect for loose fasteners, frayed cables, cracked guards, and error messages.
  • Log what you do; small issues become big without a paper trail.
  • De‑energize and LOTO when opening covers or exposing moving parts.[^osha]

Why PM matters

Fewer breakdowns → lower costs → happier members.

Simple math for target adherence:

\[ \textbf{PM Score} = \frac{\text{Tasks Completed}}{\text{Tasks Scheduled}} \times 100\% \quad \text{(aim ≥ 95%)} \]

How PM flows

graph LR
    A[Daily Wipe & Walk] --> B{Issues found?}
    B -- No --> C[Log + Done]
    B -- Yes --> D[Tag/Isolate]<-->E[Quick Fix]
    D --> F{Covers removed?}
    F -- Yes --> G[LOTO + OEM steps]

Quick cadence (reference table)

Frequency Core tasks Examples OEM notes
Daily Clean & visual Wipe touch points; check belt/seat locks Never spray consoles; no bleach1
Weekly Hardware & safety Torque spot-check; cords; lanyards Re-seat pins; check tethers
Monthly Dust & drive Vacuum intakes; lube guide rods (if specified) Treadmill belt/deck: follow model policy—some are do-not-lube2
Quarterly Deep PM Remove shrouds (LOTO); firmware check; replace wear parts Use brand manuals for exact clearances
Annual Full audit Torque survey; cable/belt audit Update PM plan & training

Tip

You can convert this table to an interactive “data table” later by adding a data-tables script or component during site build.

PM by frequency

Use tabs to keep things scannable (and consistent across categories).

  • Sanitize touch points (cloth-first).
  • Visual pass: belts, cables, pins, guards, error icons.
  • Tag & isolate hazards immediately.
  • Torque spot-check critical fasteners.
  • Verify straps, tethers, and adjustment locks.
  • Inspect cords, EM-stops, lanyards.
  • Vacuum intakes; clear vents.
  • Lube guide rods only if OEM requires.
  • Inspect belts/chains for wear & tension.
  • Remove shrouds after LOTO; deeper inspection.
  • Firmware/version check for connected consoles.
  • Replace high-wear parts proactively.

  1. Use mild, non-ammonia cleaners (cloth-first). Avoid bleach/solvents on plastics and consoles; follow manufacturer cleaning guidance.

  2. Belt/deck lubrication policies vary by model. Some treadmills are do-not-lube—always follow the specific OEM manual.
